  1. 2.  John P Carbee was born 3 May 1823, Bath, Grafton County, New Hampshire; died 25 Oct 1893, Iowa; was buried , Springville Cemetery, Springville, Iowa, United States.

    Notes:

     

    John P. Carbee was a son of John and Anna Carbee of New Hampshire. Was born on a farm in Bath Grafton County, New Hampshire. Received a common school education and lived with his parents until twenty-one years of age and then worked out on a farm one year. Going to Vermont, he continued to labor by the month till 1850 . During that year he went to Linn County, Iowa, and on May 16th entered 300 acres of government land located in sections 5 and 8 in Brown township.

    He was elected a representative in the general assembly of the state of Iowa in 1863 , and re-elected in 1865 serving till 1867. While a member of the assembly he served on many important committees and was also one of the signers of the resolution ratifying the amendment to the constitution of the United States, abolishing slavery.

    He held all the offices in the gift of his fellow townsmen , except constable and township clerk. He was a farmer and a republican. He was brought up a Congregationalist but did not unite with any church in Iowa, and died 10-25-1893. Sarah continued to live on the farm.

  1. 6.  Zachariah Betts Hampton was born 25 Jan 1798, Wrightstown, Bucks, Pennsylvania, USA (son of John H. Hampton and Mary Betts); died 18 Apr 1861, Viola, Linn Co. Iowa.

    Notes:

     

    There is no record of his early school days known to the writer but later he attended the Brandywine Friends Boarding School. He taught school in Loudon County, Virginia, and perhaps, also in Maryland, before coming to Ohio. He came to Ohio in advance of the family, in the year of 1824. Attended the Ohio Yearly Meeting (at Mt. Pleasant, probably) in the fall of that year. He took u p 80 acres of land near Pennsville, Morgan Co., and located a home for his pa rents in Blue Rock township, Muskingum Co.

    he taught school at Flushing, Belmont County, and on the 20th of April, 1825 married Sarah Griffith, at Red Stone Friend's Meeting House, near Cookstown, Pennsylvania. This church was a branch of the Ohio Yearly Meeting.

    The land he had purchased in Morgan County, was all in the woods and heavily timbered. He built a log cabin in the fall of 1825. There children were born in the cabin.
