    BRADSHAW--KIMBROUGH

A pretty home wedding of Tuesday was that of Miss Frances Kimbrough, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Kimbrough, 2207 West Grace Street, Richmond, and Dr. Charles Lawrence Bradshaw, of Falmouth, Va., a son of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Bradshaw, of Stafford county.
The ceremony took place at 11 a.m. in the home of the bride's parents, in the presence of friends and relatives. The Rev. George W. Kemper, pastor of Hanover Avenue Christian Church, officiated.
The house was decorated with quantities of pink flowers against a background of palms and ferns. Pink snap dragons, sweet peas and gladioluses banked the mantels and a great basket of them adorned the table in the dining room.
Just before the ceremony Mrs. P. McK. Shiflett sang "O Promise Me," and during the service "O Perfect Day" was softly played, while Mendelssohn's wedding march was rendered as a processional.
The bride entered with her father, who gave her in marriage. She wore a going-away gown of sand-colored poplin, hat and gloves to correspond, and a corsage bouquet of lilies of the valley and orchids.
Miss Margie Kimbrough, wearing white crepe de chine and carrying pink roses, was the bride's maid of honor and only attendant, while Dr. S. L. Scott, of Fredericksburg, acted as the groom's best man.
After the ceremony, Dr. and Mrs. Bradshaw left for a wedding trip to Washington, New York and Atlantic City. Upon their return they will reside in Falmouth, Va.
A number of guests from a distance were present, among them Dr. and Mrs. J. C. Pearce, Granville, S. C.; Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Battaile, Petersburg; Miss Fannie Bradshaw, Stafford; Dr. S. L. Scott, Fredericksburg; Mrs. N. N. Berry, Falmouth.

Portion of article from the Free Lance newspaper of Fredericksburg, Va., dated Feb. 27, 1891

    FREDERICKSBURGERS IN WASHINGTON

It is said that at least ten thousand Virginians have taken up their residence in Washington since the close of the war; of this number Fredericksburg has furnished her full share, and there was seldom a day during our residence in Washington that we were not greeted by some former resident of the old 'Burg.

......in the railway postal service may be found John P. Mansfield, of the county, young Tom Wallace, of Stafford, and Thatcher Bradshaw.

Thatcher died at his home in Brentsville, Va.

Thatcher married Virginia Elizabeth Combs 16 Jan 1873, Stafford County, Virginia. Virginia (daughter of William Combs and Sarah Wickliffe) was born 14 Jul 1834, Stafford County, Virginia; died 21 Oct 1909, Prince William County, Virginia; was buried , Manassas Cemetary. [Group Sheet]

  6. 13.  Virginia Elizabeth Combs was born 14 Jul 1834, Stafford County, Virginia (daughter of William Combs and Sarah Wickliffe); died 21 Oct 1909, Prince William County, Virginia; was buried , Manassas Cemetary.

    Notes:

There seems to be a problem with her date of birth. Her headstone, in Manassas, Va. says Sept. 13, 1833 and the Combs Family Bible says July 14, 1834. As of this date I haven't been able to find out which one is correct. It's hard for me to believe that her family celebrated her birthday at the wrong time over the years, but the headstone may be a mistake as I have found many mistakes in the headstones of family in Manassas.

The "Manassas Journal", Manassas, Va. dated October 29, 1909

Died in Brentsville on Thursday, October 21, after a long and painful illness, Mrs. V. E. Bradshaw, in the 75th year of her age. The deceased was the only and accomplished daughter of William A.(sic. should be R.) and Sarah Wickliffe Combs. She was a lineal descendant of the Wickliffes of Virginia and Kentucky, and was a niece of William A. Wickliffe, who was twice governor of Kentucky, and postmaster-general under Buchanan. At the early age of 16 she married to Dr. Walter Hore, then a young surgeon in the United States army. Six children were the result of this marriage, only two of whom survive her - Mrs. Margaret Bowen and Mr. Walter W. Hore. Dr. Hore died suddenly of apoplexy in 1873, in the midst of a reception. Her second marriage was to Mr. T. S. Bradshaw.

She leaves only one son by this union, Mr. K. M. Bradshaw. The deceased was noted in her youth for her beauty, grace and charming conversational powers, and was one of the belles of ante-bellum days, but the crowning glory of her life was her charity. "She stretched forth her hand to the poor, yea, she reached forth her hands to the needy." Wherever sorrow, sickness or poverty cast its shadow, there she brought the sunshine of her love, sympathy and beneficance. In those days "that tried men's souls" she was to the wives, widows and orphans of the Confederacy an angel of mercy and love. In her last illness, when racked with pain, if a whisper of want or suffering reached her ears every effort in her power was made to alleviate it.

She passed away calmly and peacefully to Him who has said: "Inasmuch as ye have done it to the least of these My bretheren, ye have done it unto Me."

"The pilgrim they laid in a large upper chamber, whose window opened to the sun's rising. The name of the chamber was peace, and she slept until the break of day."
