A granite footstone on Conrad's grave commemorates his service during the American Revolution with the German Fusiliers of Charleston, South Carolina from July 12, 1775 to March 3, 1777. The Daughters of the American Revolution have placed a bronze marker on his grave and the Sons of the American Revolution have placed a granite marker on his grave.

MONUMENT INSCRIPTION:

Conrad Schlup and Anna Maria Albrecht married in Rowan County, N.C. July 9, 1778. Their 200 acre plantation was 2.5 miles west of this monument. They were devout Lutherans. In 1799 Conrad's name appears as a trustee for the United German Congregation on the deed for the property this monument stands on. In 1803 he represented Lutheran Chapel Church at the founding meeting of the N.C. Lutheran Synod. [His name] Schlup was Anglicized to Sloop during his lifetime. Erected by descendants, July 27, 2002.

On May 20, 1794 he bought 100 acres from Abner Baker for 100 pounds, land situated on the waters of the little South Fork of the Yadkin River and on the west side of "Rocky Faced Mountain."

1800 Iredell County records show a land evaluation for direct tax lists Moses Bentley as owning a house valued at $7.25, a tub mill and stable at $30.00 and 260 acres of land at $130.00

After selling the South Yadkin River land, he moved his family to the upper Little River area of Burke County, now Alexander and Caldwell County.

January 02, 1801, entered a claim for 80 acres, joining William Rown, on South Yadkin River

Stated granted him above land by Grant No. 313
