She states that Susannah is a daugahter of Micajah Clark. This does not work with dates I have for each. one Micajah is too old and one is too young.

      Meador, Joseph Family F552

The Meadors of Smith Co, Tennessee were descendants of Puritan and Quaker pioneers, who came from England about 1636 and settled on the Rappahannock River in Virginia. From there members of family moved mostly south and west until 1860. My family was in Smith Co Tennessee. In the Smith County census of 1840 there were several families of Meadors in Smith County. By 1850 (after the formation of Macon County in 1842) there was only one family listed by that name. The Joseph Meador family (my great-grandfather) consisted of Joseph Meador, 48 yrs old, his wife Nancy Jane Rhoads 37, children Western (Wesley) 19, Moses age 17, Mary Jo 15, Absolom (Abseda) 12, Albert A 1, Sarah F 5, and Ann Elizabeth 10 months old.

I have only a few records of most of the children or their descendeants but as was the story of so many families when the Civil War broke out, each man followed his own beliefs and conscience.

The elder son Wesley, joined the Confederacy Co E 22nd (Barteau's) Co , 2nd Tennessee Cavalary,. Barteau's cavalry was in....MISSING line....then...and Albert joined the Union Army Co T 9th KY inf on 9-15-1861. They served until November and December 1864. One story I remember was that on a march, one brother found a meat skin. Provisions being so short, he saved it until night when the soldeirs camped. He found his brother and together they toasted the meat skin over a fire and ate the dripping on bread. Such an example of brotherly love. Also on January 2, 1863, at the Battle of Murfeesboro the Confederate 28th Tennessee Inf captured the 9th Kentucky Inf Reg flag. My great grandfather Ridley Robert West was in the 28th Tennessee, so therefore my grandfather and my great grandfather fought on opposite sides in at least one battle of the war. After the war, they retruned to Smith County and resumed their lives. Albert married Mary Ann Mundy and is remembered by many elder residents of Smith County as a most compassionate and honorable man.

Uncle Albert and Aunt "Molly" were the grandparents of present Smith County residents Kenneth and Gordon Kirby and Mrs. Nettie Phillips and Mrs. Myrle Holland. Moses Alexander married Fannie Allen Pyron and became the parents of seven children. Three of the children died at an early age. Three of the remaining left Tennessee to live elsewhere.

Elmore married Lura Donoho and moved to Tucson Arizona. Robert moved to Winfield Kansas where he married Ida Orr. Henry Jefferson never married and traveled and worked all over the USA. He died in Galveston Texas in 1955.

My father William Alton, married Bessie West Massey and died in Smith County in 1928. During their marriage they lived in Texas, Kentucky, and Tennessee. He contracted tuberculosis and spent several months in the Woodman Sanitarium in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In those days there was no medication to treat the disease so the treamtnet was to collapse the affected lung by putting air into the plural cavity, with the help of Dr. Boze of Defeated who instered a needle in the correct place, my father continued to keep the lung collapsed until advised to discontinue the treatment. There were three children born to this union. Frances who mow lives in Denver Colorado, Virginia who lives in Galveston Texas and James who graduated from Carthage High School and now lives in Dibell Texas.

Bessie West Massey Meador is now 96 yras old and lives in Galveston, Texas. She reads the Carthage Courier every week and is still interested in Smith County.

The Meador Heritage Society meets every two years in Pipestorm West Virginia to keep a record of descendents and to study and honor our heritage.

My line is Joel Meadoar (Jonas Meador, JOhn, Thomas "Prphan", Thomas Meades, Fatehr) was born about 1729 in Cumberland Co VA. He died in 1798 in Franklin Co VA. Joel married (1) Susannah Clark, daugther of George Clark and Elizabeth on 25 Nov 1750 in Franklin Co VA. Susannah was born in 1730 in Essex Co VA. She died on 11 Feb 1818 in Franklin Coi VA, Joel also married (2) Mrs. Agnes Meador. Agnes was born about 1742 in VA.

Mary (Susannah) Meador was born in 1751/1758 and died before 1818 married John Heard. The Heard family has there as Susannah. The Meador family has her as Mary. What do know she is one of Joel children (as written).

I have both Heard and Meador of my webpage www.geocities.com/janet_arciu

According to an old book, found not to be exactly correct via VPM:

      Children:

      M. 1. John b 1785 Bedford co VA

      M. 2. William b 26 April 1786 Bedford Co VA

M.3. Eli b ca 1787 Bedford Co VA

      M. 4. Jessie b 1799 Franklin Co VA or Smith Co Tn

      M. 5. Ambrose

      M. 7. Ephraim b 23 May 1787 Franklin Co VA

      M. 8. Peter

      F. 9. Elizabeth

Those born after Jesse are not in order of birth. It is probably that there were more children. Isham was a RW soldier, see page 7, the Meadaor Family.

Is is possible that Deaton and Ephraim came to Illinois, together and Deaton went to Wayne Co, IL in 1830
